The Mobility Initiative

A straightforward, collaborative path to mobility.

Getting a custom mobility device for a child is a straightforward process. We collaborate with the MakeGood network to ensure every family receives the equipment they need, regardless of where they live.

How the process works

Step 1: Submit an Application

Start by filling out the intake form through our collaborative partner at 3d-mobility.org, managed by the MakeGood organization. This centralized portal ensures all necessary clinical and sizing information is properly recorded and tracked for your child.

Step 2: The Approval & Matching Phase

Once approved, the family's request is published to the 3d-mobility.org global registry so volunteer makers can claim the build. In larger cities with a high density of volunteers, a local maker will typically step up to fulfill the order.

Step 3: The Mobility Initiative Steps In

For families located in rural US communities or underserved developing nations, finding a local 3D-printing volunteer is often impossible. We actively monitor the registry to claim these hard-to-reach requests, manufacture the open-source devices in our Colorado facility, and coordinate delivery through global NGOs, traveling volunteers, or direct-to-door shipping.

Step 4: Receive Your Device (Always 100% Free)

Every piece of equipment is manufactured and delivered at absolutely zero cost to the family. By using MakeGood's open-source designs and funding production through generous sponsorships and grants, we eliminate the financial barriers to pediatric mobility.

The Remote Print Network

A mobility device is only as useful as its structural integrity. For families in geographically isolated areas, a broken component traditionally means weeks of waiting for a shipped replacement. We are eliminating that downtime entirely. A designated portion of our funding is allocated to deploying commercial-grade 3D printers directly into the homes of remote families and regional community centers.

If a high-wear part breaks or a child outgrows a specific structural component, we have the capabilities to instantly transmit the digital file to them. Backed by our ongoing technical support and digital troubleshooting, families can manufacture their own bespoke replacement parts in a matter of hours. By pushing the supply chain directly to the end-user, we ensure a child is never left immobilized by shipping logistics.
